Thankful Thursday

imaginations that make chairs into slides

friends that help with new things to be learned

A: mommy, I have an angry heart and I need to sit
in the corner and pray for Jesus to make it better
Me: do you have a happy heart now?
A: no, oh well

That this boy will finally sit and look at a book independently for two minutes

for musical trains
(according to Ethan, if you don't play your instrument right
or if you have a fit than he's going to pull the train over)

Christmas Card for You!

Imagine you just walked down your driveway
You opened your mailbox and pulled out a few pieces of mail
As you open one of the envelopes you see this card
And you know that we are wishing you a very merry Christmas!

Thankful Thursday

for birthday breakfast treats
(after the first bite, she just liked the icing off)

for a mommy moment on camera

for these crazy big birthday kids

for together play

for teamwork
(he tells her where the food is and she sucks it up...
we'll see how long this lasts)

Thankful Thursday (special edition)

Celebrating, remembering and being overwhelmed with much thankfulness on this special Thankful Thursday.

For pictures that are hard for the heart to see...

....but good for the heart to see

That the Father's hand of protection and healing has never left

That His light is always shining on us...showing great grace and much love

that these tiny toes carry a significant story

That Christmas will always bring a different perspective

that they are beginning to understand the story healing
 and understand His grace

Happy Birthday, Ethan and Addison!

Thankful Thursday

So it seems odd that "Thankful Thursday" has dropped off during what is supposed to be the month of focus on thankfulness, huh?  Wish I could say I had a good reason, but I don't...the weeks just keep flying by and I keep missing Thursday:)

But we're back now and adjusting to a new normal life:)

for make believe moments and silly costumes

for chances to soak in every minute of the early setting sun

for thrills in daddy's arms

for swings that hold two

for all the toddler feet that snuggle on our couch these days

Feeding Course

Last weekend I had the incredible opportunity to attend a pediatric feeding course...before I dive into how highly educational and encouraging it was, I first have to tell you how I ended up there.

For last year or so I've been reading and researching different approaches to pediatric feeding disorders and have found the Lord's protection and provision to be absolutely amazing! Without going into great detail, I've learned that the inpatient program we were pushing for does not use the best method for children with sensory/texture issues (which is Ethan). Although it felt like defeat at the time, it was God unfolding his goodness and best for our family...and he even used an insurance company:)

I then ran across a course on-line and felt drawn to it, however its intended audience is professionals. So just to be sure, I called to see if it was okay for a parent to attend.  I was initially told no, but two days later the course coordinator called me back and said I could come (miracle 1).  Once I told a few people I was going, some frequent flyer miles were donated that completely covered my travel costs (miracle 2).  Then after a few more people found out, I was told I had a distant relative that lived in the area.  After checking her address and the course location I decided it was too far away for me to stay with her.  Then one week before the course I received an email stating the course had been moved to the opposite side of the city.  The new location was five blocks from my relative, who provided great hospitality (miracle 3).  Then after some checking we found out that the course could be paid for with flexible spending account funds (miracle 4).  I think God wanted me to attend, and for what he plans he always provides.

To say I was a little overwhelmed would be a drastic understatement.....I was way out of my league!  Sitting in a room of Phd recipients and terminology that was far beyond my normal toddler communications, I started doubting the decision to attend. But at the first break I had a reality check with some Truths and prayed for understanding and application. It came, and I left the two days feeling it was incredibly worth it.  I feel I gained understanding on how and why feeding disorders develop, how they are frequently misunderstood and misdiagnosed and an enormous list of resources and practical ideas. I'm excited to spend the next few weeks rehashing and processing all I've learned and working with our medical team on how some of these strategies should be applied.

I left feeling very encouraged that it is possible and very probable our kids will grow out of their need for feeding tubes.  The Lord uses those he chooses, and I'm thankful He chose to fill a feeding specialist with knowledge that could be passed on to me.  He is good...and I am thankful!

You'll Still Be Running

Happy anniversary weekend to my running man....

I heard this song a little while ago and I knew it would be fitting for us as we celebrated our seventh anniversary.  So thankful for the fun and challenging run we've had over the last seven years and so proud of the 26.2 miles you completed.  Excited to see where the rest of this race leads us!

(click to listen)

There was a girl dark haired and wide eyes
Looked at the world strong willed and not afraid to put up a fight
She appeared tough on the outside
One look at her and he made up his mind
I'm yours for a lifetime
One thing lead to another
Now we're standing here together

You'll still be running by my side
When the world falls to its knees
And we'll still be dancing
when the world has lost the ability to hear
a symphony

One look from you and I know I'm beautiful
You give me courage to admit when I'm wrong and start over
So at the start of every adventure
Peering over the edge with you is where I want to be
It's where you'll find me

One foot in front of the other
Here's to hand in hand forever
'Cause you'll still be running by my side
When the world falls to its knees
And we'll still be dancing
when the world has lost the ability to hear
a symphony

Can you hear the stars
singing out our song?
When you reach for me
the heavens sing along
Can you hear my heart
pounding out a melody
that I belong with you
and you belong with me?
